Jennifer Harman is considered the best all around female poker player and highly respected by all the male players for her skill at poker.
Born in the gambling town of Reno, Nevada, Jennifer Harman was introduced to Poker at a very small age of eight by watching her father play in the home games. Soon, she got so good at it that her father used to make her play in his place whenever he used to be loosing. More often than not, she used to win back his lost money.
Her poker stint was affected by severe health problems leading to kidney transplant.
By the age of 16, Jennifer Harman was playing at live games at the poker rooms using a fake I.D., even though she was underage.
After her graduation, Jennifer Harman went to the University of Nevada. She took up many part time cocktail waitress jobs while studying which gave her enough money to play poker at the casinos. She kept on studying the game of poker by reading strategy books.
After getting her degree, she moved to L.A. and became a bartender. However, she left that job within a month to pursue her first love, Poker. She became a full time poker player, a decision that created a huge rift between her and her father, who did not speak to her for many years after that.
She quit poker after two years to start her own business, which went bust very soon. She was back to poker and moved to Las Vegas with a bankroll made of money borrowed from a friend. Here bankroll kept her afloat until 1993 when she again went bust. This time too she took a huge loan from a friend to win back what she had lost. Soon she was back to her winning ways.
At this point of time, Jennifer started to actively take part in various tournaments also and recorded many in the money finishes. However, it was not until 2000 WSOP before she started making her mark in the tournament circuit. She secured her first WSOP bracelet for winning the $ 5,000 No Limit Deuce-to-Seven Draw for which she got $146,250. What adds more importance to that win is the fact that it was the first time she was playing that game after getting a 5 minute lesson from Howard Lederer before the event.
She went on to win her second WSOP bracelet in 2002 by winning the $5000 Limit Holdem Event, which got her $ 212,440.
Since then she has many final table finishes at WSOP and WPT with the biggest one coming in March 2008, when she came 3rd at the $9,600 No Limit Hold'em - Championship Event(Bay 101 Shooting Stars, San Jose) for which she got $ 330,000.
She is considered an expert in Limit Holdem and Doyle Brunson invited her to become the co-author of “Super System 2” and write the chapter on Limit Holdem for the book, which is considered the Bible for poker players.
She is also part of “The Corporation”, which is a group of top high-stakes players in the world who came together to take up billionaire banker Andy Beal in many high-stake heads-up games. Jennifer Harman is famous for winning $9 Million for “The Corporation” from Andy Beal.
He his a regular and only woman at the “Big Game”, the $4000/$8000 cash game at the Bellagio where she plays against some of the best in the world like Doyle Brunson, Ted Forrest, Phil Ivey and Barry Greenstein to name a few.
Her tournament winnings are more than $ Million, which places her at number in all time money list and 4th in Women’s all time list.
Jennifer had to undergo second kidney transplant in 2004 but was back to playing poker very soon. After having failed romances with her fellow poker players Howard Lederer and Todd Brunson, she married Marco Traniello and lives in Las Vegas with their twin sons. She is also the founder of a non-profit organization called Creating Organ Donation Awareness (CODA), which raises awareness and money for the issue of organ donation. She is also associated with Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA)..
