He went to college in Chico, California to play the game of basketball.

Erick Lindgren got his first job at the Colusa Indian Casino as a blackjack dealer. It was during this time that he got attracted towards Texas Holdem and started studying the game seriously. Soon, he was devoting more time to poker than his studies and decided to drop out of college to follow poker.

At the casino, he also learnt how to spot the tells by studying the players who used to come there. By the age of 21, he started working as a proposition poker player for a casino in San Pablo, California.

At the same time, Erick Lindgren put up a small setup with multiple computers and started multi tabling at various poker sites simultaneously. Erik was earning well from his proposition player income and the online poker winnings. His game also improved a lot during this time due to the amount of poker he was playing.

In 2002, Erick Lindgren moved to the gambling capital, Las Vegas and started playing in big buy in tournaments. He was immediately rewarded the same year in December when he won the $ 3,000 No Limit Hold'em - Main Event at the Bellagio Five Diamond Poker Classic – 2002 to pocket a cool $228,192.

Erick Lindgren followed this up in 2003 by reaching the final tables of $ 3000 Pot Limit Holdem event at the WSOP and 2 events of the WPT by the month of July. In October, victory again kissed his feat when he won the $ 4,000 No Limit Hold'em Championship Final Day – WPT at the 2003 Ultimatebet.com Poker Classic II to add $500,000 to his bankroll.

But the ultimate moment for Erick Lindgren came in March 2004 when he took out his friend Daniel Negreanu in heads up play to win the $ 7,000 Limit Hold'em Championship Final Day - PartyPoker.com Million III Limit Hold'em. This gave him his first $1 Million payday as well as the WPT Player of the Year award for 2004.
